How this works
The code is made in your browser: your text as UTF-8, in the smallest QR version (1 to 40) that holds it at your error correction level. L, M, Q and H recover about 7, 15, 25 and 30 percent of a damaged code. Of the eight standard masks, the one with the lowest penalty score is used.
A link without http or https gets https. Wi-Fi codes use the WIFI: format phone cameras read (WPA covers WPA2 and WPA3), email codes are mailto: links, phone codes tel: links and SMS codes SMSTO:. Scanners read dark on light best, with a quiet zone of four squares; a warning appears when the colors would make that hard.
A tracked link sends your link to our server only when you choose Create tracked link. The server keeps the link, its date and a scan count, and the code points to thatone.app/q/, which counts the scan and forwards to your link. Deleting a tracked code here forgets it on this device; printed codes keep working.
Everything else stays on this device, including Wi-Fi passwords in the codes you keep.
Saved on this device. Tracked links are the one exception: their destination and scan count are stored on our server, and only when you ask for one.
