How this works
The square sets saturation (left to right) and brightness (bottom to top) for the hue on the slider below it. Drag either one, or focus it and use the arrow keys: Shift moves ten steps at a time, and Page Up and Page Down change brightness by ten. The color well opens your system picker, and where your browser has one, the pipette picks a color from anywhere on your screen.
The text field reads hex codes (3, 4, 6 or 8 digits), rgb(), hsl(), hsv(), oklch() and cmyk(), with commas or spaces, and the 148 CSS color names such as teal or rebeccapurple. Transparency is ignored. Every format is shown with as many decimals as it needs to copy back to exactly the same color.
CMYK is approximate: it is the plain conversion from screen color, not a print profile, so ask your printer for theirs before you send a file. OKLCH is a color space where equal steps look equal; a color outside what screens show keeps its lightness and hue and gives up chroma until it fits.
Contrast is the WCAG 2 ratio: 4.5 to 1 passes AA for body text, 3 to 1 passes AA for large text, and 7 to 1 passes AAA. Compare with this keeps the current color as the second color; Swap trades the two. Shades mix the color with black and tints mix it with white, in steps of 20 percent.
