BMI is a rough guide for adults. It cannot tell muscle from fat, and it does not fit children, teens, pregnancy or very muscular people. It is not a diagnosis; a doctor or nurse can tell you what it means for you.

How this works
Body mass index is your weight divided by your height squared: BMI = kg ÷ (m × m). US heights and weights are converted first (1 in is 2.54 cm, 1 lb is 0.45359237 kg). The result is shown to one decimal, and the category follows the WHO's adult ranges: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 healthy weight, 25 to 29.9 overweight, and 30 or more obesity (class 1 from 30, class 2 from 35, class 3 from 40).
The healthy weight for your height is the range that gives a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9. Switching between Metric and US converts what you typed, and switching back restores it exactly.
BMI is a screening number, not a measure of health. It does not tell muscle from fat or show where fat sits, it reads differently for some ethnic groups and for older adults, and it is not meant for children, teens or pregnancy. A doctor or nurse can put it in context.
Your height, weight and units are remembered on this device, and readings are kept only when you save them (up to 20). Clear all empties the form, and Undo brings it back; saved readings stay until you delete them.
